14 areas marked as ‘red zone’ in Khulna
Fourteen areas in Khulna district have been declared 'red zones' and the district civil surgeon has recommended locking down the areas to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The areas are wards 8, 9, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 28 and 30 of Khulna city and Aichgati union under Dighalia upazila and Senhati union under Rupsha upazila in the district.
A letter was sent to the deputy commissioner and divisional health director last Tuesday mentioning the red zone areas.
According to the Khulna Civil Surgeon's Office, the government has taken initiative to declare areas with high levels of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection as 'red zones'.
General holidays including lockdown may be declared in these areas. So far 445 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Khulna and nine of them died.
District Civil Surgeon Sujat Ahmed said there were plans to overcome the corona situation through zone-based lockdown and the local administration would decide where the lockdown would take place.
A letter has been sent to the district administration identifying 14 areas in the district as red zone and the final decision will be taken after a meeting.
