The Gana Sanghati Andolan has demonstrated in front of the Civil Surgeon's Office in Narayanganj, to press home their seven-point charter of demands, including 20 percent of the budgetary allocation for the health sector.
Members of the platform gheraoed the office and chanted a slogan "no death without treatment" at around 12 pm on Tuesday. Later, they handed over a memorandum containing their demands to the health department through Civil Surgeon Imtiaz Ahmed.

They demanded that at least 20 percent of the budget be allocated for the health sector and that timely allocation of money and its use be ensured.
Their other demands include mass testing with Gonoshasthaya Kendra's kit giving it approval and enhancing capacity to do 50,000 PCR tests daily as early as possible, expanding testing facilities to district and upazila levels, ensuring central oxygen supply to all hospitals dismantling the oxygen cylinder syndicate and arranging adequate quarantine and isolation facilities in densely populated areas.
They said all citizens should be given health cards to ensure universal health coverage and the health system should run under an independent constitutional commission to ensure accountability of public-private health activities through regulatory authorities.
At the same time, they demanded that an independent judicial commission be formed to investigate corruptions and irregularities in recruitment, transfer, promotion, procurement of medicines, medical equipment and other products under the health sector, and to bring all, including the ministers and bureaucrats concerned, under justice.
