75.2% Covid patients suffer from severe anxiety: Survey
52.7% of the patients showed symptoms of partial memory loss
A survey found that 75.2% of Covid-19 patients in the country suffered from severe anxiety.
The findings, which also show that 16.3% suffered from severe depression, was unveiled at an international webinar jointly organised by North South University and Bangladesh Neuroscience Society on Saturday as an effort to help combat challenges surrounding Covid-19 in Bangladesh, read a press release.
Besides, 52.7% of the patients showed symptoms of partial memory loss. Other noticeable complications included; loss of smell (84.2%), headache (93.7%), insomnia (96.3%), tiredness (81.6%) and muscle pain (66%).
The online survey was conducted among 2037 participants on patients from age 20 to 60 years. Some of the information on patients' mental health was also obtained through verbal interviews.
Dr Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean at the School of Health & Life Sciences and Dr Muhammad Ashrafur Rahman, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences from NSU, conducted the survey study regarding the mental health of Covid-19 patients in Bangladesh.
In this webinar, Dr Manjur Rony from the University of Illinois in the US, Dr Muhammad Uddin Dafil from Seek The Children Institute in Canada and Dr Il Su Moon from Dongguk University in South Korea presented their thoughts and research regarding the state of Covid-19.
Dr Hasan Mahmud Reza said presiding over the webinar that it is important for hospitals and clinics in Bangladesh to open designated corners in their facilities to combat post-Covid complications in patients.
He expressed the significance of delivering proper information and direction to combat Covid-19 in Bangladesh and ended the webinar by thanking the participants and speakers.
