The two-day 'Shah Abdul Karim Loko Utshob-2025' was celebrated with timeless folk melodies—'Bondhe Maya Lagaise Deewana Banaise', 'Gari Chole Na', 'Bosonto Batase Soi Go', 'Keno Piriti Baraila re Bondu', 'Tumi Bine Akul Poran', and so on—paying tribute to the legendary Baul Samrat. The festival was held at Ujandhal field in Derai, Sunamganj, and was organised by Shah Abdul Karim Parishad with the support of bKash for three consecutive years.
The festival's inauguration on Friday was presided over by the President of Shah Abdul Karim Parishad, also son of Baul Samrat, Shah Nur Jalal. Also present were the Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj, Dr Mohammad Ileas Mia, the Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer of bKash, Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), and others.
Honouring Baul Samrat's creations, folk musicians and devotees from across the country performed throughout the two-day festival, ensuring his musical legacy passed down through generations. The event attracted a diverse crowd, including local youths, families, fans, and well-wishers from nationwide and abroad.
The Ujandhal ground was also vibrant, with various stalls offering items like muri-murki, sweets, toys, and household goods, adding to the festival's lively atmosphere.
The Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer of bKash, Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), said, "bKash has been ensuring easier and safer financial services for the people. Along with services, we have consistently been working to contribute to the prosperity of our nation's culture. As a responsible corporate organisation, we feel proud to be part of this auspicious occasion, organised in remembrance of such a personality."
Shah Nur Jalal, president of Shah Abdul Karim Parishad and son of the Baul Samrat, expressed his gratitude to bKash and the local community for their cooperation in organising this year's festival.
The festival has been organised on the bank of River Kalni since 2006.
