If there's one profession where people get highly paid to argue, it's law. Pursuing a legal education opens countless career opportunities and shapes individuals into admirable, analytical thinkers.
As the saying goes, law is the only game where the best players get to sit on the bench. A law graduate embarks on a journey filled with advocacy, judiciary roles, research, and, most importantly, a commitment to justice and social betterment.
A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) has become a prestigious and dynamic career choice, especially in today's evolving landscape, which includes human rights, international relations, environmental law, and even legal aspects of artificial intelligence (AI). Law schools equip students with critical thinking abilities, negotiation skills, persuasive communication, and a strong ethical foundation—qualities that define successful legal professionals and shape leaders.
In Bangladesh, law and medical science are considered two of the most esteemed fields, offering stability, respect, and opportunities for long-term success. Law graduates contribute across various sectors, beginning as advocates in lower courts and progressing to the High Court and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh after passing the Bangladesh Bar Council Enrolment Exam. Many also serve as public prosecutors or government pleaders, representing the state in legal proceedings. However, the legal profession extends far beyond the courtroom. Graduates can work as legal advisors or law officers in government agencies, private corporations, banks, and NGOs. The Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJS) exam, exclusive to law graduates, offers a pathway into the judiciary, while those inclined toward academia can pursue teaching roles in universities. Opportunities in international law, such as becoming a barrister in the UK or working with global organisations, further expand career prospects. Additionally, law graduates can enter public administration by appearing for the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam, allowing them to influence policy and governance on a broader scale.
Despite the vast opportunities available to law graduates, many struggle due to lack hands-on experience and professional preparedness. To bridge this gap, the Department of Law at International Standard University (ISU) has introduced multiple initiatives to ensure students gain real-world exposure alongside their academic learning. ISU emphasises practical training through mock trials, moot court competitions, public speaking enhancement, and legal debates, allowing students to build confidence and sharpen their advocacy skills.
Additionally, ISU provides practical assignments, court visits, and seminars on contemporary legal issues, ensuring that students receive firsthand exposure to the legal profession. The department was established in 2024 with a vision to become one of the leading law schools in Bangladesh. According to Advocate Rashed Ahmed, Chairperson of the Department of Law, ISU follows an Outcome-Based Legal Education (OBE) approach, which prepares students to excel in their careers while upholding the fundamental values of justice and leadership.
Beyond its strong academic curriculum, ISU offers outstanding infrastructure to support quality education. The university provides an air-conditioned, CCTV-monitored campus for a safe and comfortable learning environment. Smart classrooms with multimedia projectors and sound systems facilitate interactive and modern teaching methods. The faculty at ISU consists of experts with national and international experience, offering students invaluable mentorship and career guidance.
At ISU, law students receive a holistic education that prepares them to face 21st-century challenges confidently and competently. The combination of academic excellence, practical experience, and a forward-thinking curriculum ensures that graduates leave not just as professionals—but as future leaders in the legal world.
A team of dedicated, trained, and experienced teachers is working here in a congenial academic atmosphere, which is smoothly ensured by the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan and caringly fostered by Chairman of the ISU Board of Trustees Engineer AKM Mosharraf Hussain and Vice-Chairman Engineer Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, the two key persons of Standard Group, one of the top-notch export industries of the country, along with Treasurer HTM Quader Newaz, an academic enthusiast and humanitarian.
