Southeast Bank holds Annual Risk Conference 2024
Southeast Bank PLC conducted its "Annual Risk Conference 2024" in a hybrid format at the Bank's Head Office, Dilkusha, Dhaka. Mr. Nuruddin Md. Sadeque Hossain, Managing Director of Southeast Bank PLC, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the critical role of the Risk Conference in fostering a robust risk management culture throughout the Bank.
In his address, Mr. Hossain noted significant improvements in various performance indicators. The Bank's operating profit reached Tk. 893.66 crore in September 2024, marking a substantial growth of Tk. 285.83 crore, or 47%, compared to the same period in 2023. The Bank also achieved a 5% growth in deposits, totaling Tk. 2,074 crore, and a 7% increase in loans and advances, amounting to Tk. 2,367 crore, in the first nine months of 2024.
To further strengthen its position, Southeast Bank decided to maintain an additional provision of Tk. 100 crore, having already cleared last year's deficit of Tk. 330 crore by September 2024. The Bank also saw impressive growth in international business, with a 22% increase in import activities, 3% growth in exports, and a remarkable 38% rise in inward remittances during the same period.
Mr. Hossain expressed gratitude to branch managers and head office officials for their contributions in achieving the Bank's targets for the first nine months of the year. He urged everyone to continue working collaboratively to sustain this growth momentum in the future.
Ms. Mahmuda Haque, Joint Director of the Department of Off-site Supervision at Bangladesh Bank, was a key speaker at the event. She emphasized the evolving nature of risks in the financial industry and the importance of integrating advanced risk management tools. She highlighted industry best practices for risk mitigation and stressed the need for proactive risk awareness at all levels of the Bank.
Deputy Managing Directors Mr. Masum Uddin Khan and Mr. Abidur Rahman Chowdhury, along with Executive Vice President & Chief Risk Officer Mr. Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, attended the conference in person, alongside other divisional heads and key executives. Heads and Managers of Branch Operations, Offshore Banking Units, and Uposhakhas participated in the conference online through a digital platform.
