Terrazzoarc: Redefining sustainability with Jesmonite
Currently, Terrazzoarc is the only brand in Bangladesh exclusively working with this innovative material, which is imported directly from the UK through local cargo services
Samiha Manzur, a Brac University graduate with a deep passion for handmade products, turned her passion into a business in 2021. Initially planning to work with resin, a popular material in Bangladesh, she soon discovered Jesmonite—an eco-friendly, faster, and more durable alternative.
This led her to launch her business, Terrazzoarc, with Jesmonite at its core.
"This discovery inspired me to pivot my focus, and I launched my business 'Terrazzoarc' later that year, offering unique, handcrafted Jesmonite products that blend creativity with sustainability," Samiha shared.
Terrazzoarc specialises in a variety of handmade items, including trinkets, coasters, and decorative shells. The designs are a blend of modern aesthetics and the beauty of simplicity.
"I experiment with a variety of colours and textures, often drawing inspiration from soft earth tones and muted pastels, as well as bold, vibrant shades for more statement pieces. The versatility of Jesmonite allows me to create different finishes, whether it's marbled effects, terrazzo patterns, or sleek minimal designs," she explained.
Jesmonite, known for its versatility, durability, and eco-friendliness, is ideal for artisans creating sustainable, long-lasting products. Currently, Terrazzoarc stands as the only brand in Bangladesh exclusively working with this innovative material, which is imported directly from the UK through local cargo services.
"I wanted to create handcrafted products that not only showcased creativity but also embraced sustainability," Samiha said, adding that she saw Jesmonite as a way to fill a gap in the market while offering customers something innovative and eco-friendly.
Samiha runs the entire operation of Terrazzoarc from her home, handling everything from production to customer interactions single-handedly.
The process begins by mixing Jesmonite powder and liquid to create a moldable material. Samiha then pours the mixture into custom moulds and allows the pieces to set. Once cured, each item is carefully sanded and polished to achieve a smooth, refined finish.
Terrazzoarc offers a wide range of customisation options, allowing customers to choose their preferred colour palettes, patterns, and design elements to create a one-of-a-kind piece.
