There are enough stocks, no need to panic: Commerce secretary
He visited various kitchen markets in the capital’s Shantinagar, New Market, and Mohammadpur Town Hall areas on Saturday
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has ample stocks of various products this year as compared to other years so there is no reason to panic, said Md Zafar Uddin, senior secretary of the Ministry of Commerce.
He visited various kitchen markets in the capital's Shantinagar, New Market, and Mohammadpur Town Hall areas, and inspected TCB's product sales activities through trucks on Saturday.
The commerce secretary said, "This year, the TCB has 12 times more stocks than other years. We started working three to four months ago to arrange these stocks so that civilians do not have to endure suffering."
Some 630 trucks of the TCB are currently selling products around the country. The secretary said the number of trucks and dealers will be increased, if required.
"We are in regular contact with suppliers and are also checking LCs regularly. We are working to import more and keep the supply consistent," he added.
About Saturday's visit, the commerce secretary said, "We have come to inspire people who are out in the field including the TCB, consumer rights officials, and the district administration."
He further added that along with business leaders, everyone is working from their end to keep the supply stable.
The secretary also warned businesses not to make excessive profit. "If anyone attempts to earn extra profit, they will be brought under book."
