Not just Iskcon, but anyone who commits crimes must be prosecuted: Jamaat Ameer tells CA
“We have asked the government to organise elections after carrying out minimum reforms within a reasonable time," he says
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has urged the government to take action against anyone involved in committing crimes in the country, not just the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
"Anyone attempting to destabilise the country must be identified. Our position is clear on this. We have discussed these things with the government," the Jamaat chief said at a press conference after a view-exchange meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Yunus at the State House Jamuna this evening (28 November).
The meeting was attended by a delegation of Jamaat at 6pm, said Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the party's Publicity Secretary Ataur Rahman Sarkar.
Regarding national polls, Shafiqur Rahman said, "We have asked the government to organise elections after carrying out minimum reforms within a reasonable time."
Referring to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir comments on the country experiencing an unstable situation, the Jamaat chief said, "There is some chaos in the country, but we do not think that the country has completely gone to pieces."
Jamaat Ameer also called on everyone to uphold national unity, regardless of caste or religion.
