2 ‘Rohingya drug peddlers' killed in a 'gunfight'
50 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, one Chinese pistol and two rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot
Two suspected Rohingya drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early Monday.
The deceased are Md Alam, 26, lived in the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya and Md Yasin, 24, resident of Balukhali camp.
Commander of Teknaf-2 BGB, Lieutenant Colonel Faysal Hassan Khan confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"On information, a team of BGB members conducted a drive on the banks of Naf river. BGB men saw that three Rohingya men were swimming towards Bangladesh territory and trying to enter the edge of the Naf River. Sensing the presence of BGB members, the drug smugglers opened fire on them. The BGB members fired back in self-defence that triggered the gunfight,' he added.
Faysal Hassan Khan also said, "Two BGB men - Lance Nayek Md Abdul Kuddus and Lance Nayek Md Shaker Uddin - sustained injuries in the incident. One of the drug traders fled the scene."
"The injured Rohingya men were taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where they succumbed to injuries there."

The commander further said, "The bodies were kept to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case is being filed in this regard."
