ACC to start inquiry against Regent’s Shahed
The Commission has already collected information against Shahed from different sources
In the chain of recent events, now the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to initiate inquiry against Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, the owner of Regent Hospital and chairman of Regent Group.
The commission decided to probe the allegations of fraudulent collection of crores of taka from the public in the name of microcredit and MLM business, embezzlement of government funds through multi-dimensional fraud and collusion, income tax evasion, embezzlement by taking bank loans in fake names and identities.
A three-member inquiry team, led by Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddique, has been formed. Other members of the team are - Md Neyamul Hasan Gazi and Sheikh Md Golam Mawla.
The Commission has already collected information against Shahed from different sources.
ACC director and spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Two branches of Regent Hospital – owned by Shahed – were sealed off for allegedly faking Covid-19 test certificates and over other irregularities. Shahed is on the run since law enforcers started the raids in his organisations.
