Fire at Gazipur spinning mill kills one
7 firefighting units on the spot
One individual has died while trying to douse the fire at a spinning mill located at Sripur upazila of Gazipur.
The deceased, Rasel (45) was the security guard of the factory and from Mymemsingh’s Gafargaon upazila.
According to the doctor at Sripur upazila health complex, Rasel was already dead when he was brought to the hospital.
The fire incident occurred at Auto Spinning Mills at 2.30pm on Tuesday.
“The fire started from the factory’s warehouse,” said Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service.
From the beginning, the factory’s own firefighting capabilities are being used to bring the fire under control.
7 firefighting units from Gazipur and Valuka are collaboratively trying to douse the fire at the moment.
“Firefighters delayed to reach to the spot,” Nur Jahan, assistant manager of the factory blamed the fire service department.
“Expensive machineries have been destroyed due to the fire,” he claimed.
However, Akhtaruzzaman denied such claims stating that firefighters reached to the spot immediately after hearing the news.
According to him, there was inadequate supply of water and the units had to source the water from nearby Meghna bicycle factory.
The loss incurred due to the incident is unknown at the moment.
