1 killed, 3 injured in train-auto-rickshaw collision in Cumilla
Three seriously injured people are undergoing treatment
A passenger of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was killed and three others injured in a collision with a freight train in Cumilla.
The incident took place at Shashongachha rail crossing in the city today morning.
The deceased is Farid Munshi, 65, hailing from Debidwar upazila of the district.
The injured are his wife Peyara Begum, daughter Ankhi Akhter and the auto-rickshaw driver Rakibul Islam.
The auto-rickshaw was trying to pass the level crossing through the empty part of the rail gate when the train hit it and dragged it 300 feet away, according to Witnesses.
"The auto-rickshaw came over the railway line while the Dhaka bound freight train coming from Chattogramg was crossing the Shashongachha rail crossing," said Cumilla Railway Station Master Shafiqur Rahman.
The air pipe of the engine of the train was damaged in the accident. Later, the train was brought to the railway station and repaired.
The injured were rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where Farid died on the way. Munshi came to Cumilla from Debidwar in the morning to see a doctor in the city.
Three seriously injured people are undergoing treatment.
