Nusrat Murder: Death references to be sent to HC Tuesday
Sixteen people were given death penalty for their roles in murdering the madrasa student
The death references of 16 convicts in Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case are ready to be sent to the High Court.
"The death references have been prepared. We're optimistic about sending them to the High Court on Tuesday for approval of the verdict," said Feni Judge's Court Public Prosecutor Hafez Ahmed.
Sixteen people were given death penalty for their roles in murdering the madrasa student.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined each of them Tk1 lakh.
The convicts are – madrasa principal SM Sirajuddoula, ex-Awami League upazila unit president Ruhul Amin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Nur Uddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absar Uddin.
Sonagazi madrasa student Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 on the roof of the educational institution, allegedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her.
She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed at Sonagazi Police Station on April 8. Police pressed charges in court against 16 people on May 29.
