Driver, helper arrested over shoving woman from moving bus

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the driver and helper of N Mallick Paribahan bus over shoving a speech-impaired woman from a moving bus in Keraniganj, Dhaka.
The arrestees are bus driver Md Sabuj, 25, and helper Md Nahid, 19.
A team of RAB conducted a drive in the Daleswar area of South Keraniganj at night and arrested the duo. The team seized the bus too, confirmed Major Shahriar Ziaur Rahman of RAB 10 to The Business Standard on Tuesday morning.
Samot Banu, the mother of the victim named Shilpi, filed a case at Kamrangirchar Police Station on Monday.
According to the case statement, Shilpi is speech-impaired but able to write. She got on a bus of N Mallick Paribahan from Konakhola Bus Stand of Kamrangirchar for Nawabganj on Sunday.
When the conductor demanded fare, she wrote on a piece of paper that she had no money. She also told him that a staff member of the bus had permitted her to use the bus without paying a fare. However, the conductor was not convinced and pushed her from the moving bus at Rohitpur of the Keraniganj.
Samot Banu demanded maximum punishment for the accused.
Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on the Internet, showing that the woman was thrown out of an N Mollik bus that runs on the Gulistan-Nawabganj route. The woman fell face down on the ground and was groaning.
Later, she informed the people present there about the incident by writing on a tile.
