Narayanganj SP transferred for involvement in ‘kidnapping’
The transfer order came just a day after his alleged involvement in picking up wife and son of Shawkat Aziz, son of Partex Group’s chairman MA Hashem Aziz
Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj Mohammed Harun-ur Rashid was transferred to the Police Headquarters on Sunday.
The transfer order came just a day after his alleged involvement in picking up wife and son of Shawkat Aziz, son of Partex Group's chairman MA Hashem Aziz, from Dhaka's Gulshan and bringing them to Narayanganj.
Earlier, at a press conference on Saturday, Harun-ur Rashid said, "Police recovered 28 rounds of bullets, 1,200 pieces of Yaba, 24 bottles of foreign liquor and 48 cans of beer from Shawkat Aziz's car in Narayanganj's Signboard area on early Saturday."
Two cases were filed against Shawkat Aziz and his driver Md Sumon under the arms and the narcotics control acts, said Harun-ur Rashid.
"His [Shawkat] wife and son were in the car. They were detained for questioning," the SP told the press conference.
However, Shawkat Aziz told Bangla daily Prothom Alo on Sunday afternoon that Harun-ur Rashid was furious with him as he denied paying extortion to the SP.
For this reason, Harun came all the way from Narayanganj and picked up his wife Farah Russell and son Anab Aziz from their Gulshan residence on Friday night, said Shawkat, adding that he was not present at home at that time.
On Thursday night, Harun and his men also took Shawkat's car from the Dhaka Club and staged the drama, claimed Shawkat.
Shawkat Aziz also shared a CCTV footage of his residence on Facebook, that shows how the Narayanganj police raided his house on early Saturday and took his wife and son.
As per the President's order, Deputy Secretary of the home ministry Dhananjay Kumar Das issued the order of Harun's transfer to Bangladesh Police Headquarters (Training Reserve) on Sunday afternoon.
The Business Standard contacted SP Harun over the phone but he refused to comment over the issue.
Also, Shawkat Aziz's phone was found unreachable.
