Munia’s sister files GD citing death threats over phone
Nusrat Jahan, sister of college student Mosarrat Jahan Munia who recently committed suicide in a Gulshan flat, has filed general diary today with Cumilla Kotwali police station, citing death threats over phone.
Farooq Ahmed, police superintendent of Cumilla, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
In the statement, Nusrat wrote that she got calls from four different phone numbers. They asked her to withdraw the case, the one she filed against Bashundhara Group's Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir accusing him of "abetment of suicide" of her sister Munia. Otherwise, they threatened her to put her family in trouble or will murder and hide their bodies.
Earlier, Munia was found hanging in a flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Monday (26 April) evening. Nusrat filed a case with the Gulshan police station against Anvir under Section 306 of the Penal Code later at night.
On 27 April, a Dhaka court barred Anvir from leaving the country following police plea after he was made an accused of "abetment of suicide" of Munia.
Anvir's lawyer filed a petition with the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case on 28 April. However, concerned High Court bench, the following day, announced that it would not hear any anticipatory bail until further notice due to Covid-19 situation in the country. So, hearing on Anvir's bail plea was not held.
Later at night on the same day, eight members of Anvir's family, including his wife and children, left the country for Dubai on a chartered flight, said a top official of the immigration police.
Meanwhile, some media outlets reported saying Anvir has left the country too, but police said Anvir is still here according to their immigration system information.
