A police official was killed after he was hit by a microbus on the Chattogram-Kaptai highway early on Friday.
Kazi Md Salahuddin, an assistant sub-inspector at Chandgaon Police Station in Chattogram, signalled the microbus to stop around 4am when it was headed for Chattogram city.
The driver first slowed down a bit but then ran over Salahuddin and another police official of his team, Md Masum, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chandgaon police station.
The two policemen were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Salahuddin dead, he said. Masum was receiving treatment.
Salahuddin, son of Kazi Nader Zaman of south Joypur village in Lakshmipur Sadar, sustained injuries in his head and hip, said Shilbrata, a nayek at the police outpost of the hospital.

"Police searched the vehicle and found 730 litres of local alcoholin 35 plastic sacks," he said.
He also said police were trying to capture the driver while Salahuddin's body would be handed over to the family after an autopsy.
