ATU holds four militants in Khulna
Police said the suspected militants were planning to assassin eminent political and religious figures of the country
The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a special unit of Bangladesh Police, has held four suspected militants from Khulna Metropolitan area on Wednesday night.
Police said they belong to 'Allahr Dal', a banned militant outfit, and had been planning to assassin eminent political and religious figures of the country. Four mobile phone sets, documents and jihadi books were seized from there possession.
The suspected militants are — Raza Mia alias Nur Alam, 31, Ajekul Islam, 24, Ahsan-Ullah alias Nirob, 27 and Abdul Hamid, 35, the Anti-Terrorism Unit said in a press release.
ATU Superintendent (media) Mahiduzzaman said they conducted a raid on Wednesday night as the four persons gathered to conspire against the state.
They confessed their involvement in militancy during primary interrogation, added Mahiduzzaman.
The ATU official said that 'Allahr Dal' members do not believe in democracy and term it a 'satanic system'. They maintain communication through the internet.
A case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009 against them.
