Attack on Nur a disgrace for all students: Tofail
Tofail also said the way Nur was tortured inside the Ducsu office was inhumane
Tofail Ahmed - a member of Awami League's advisory committee and a former minister - termed the attack on Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur as unfair and unacceptable.
"Assaulting a Ducsu VP is a disgrace for all students," said Tofail.
He made the comment at the inauguration ceremony of a branch of NRBC Bank in the Bangla Bazar area of Bhola on Tuesday.
Tofail added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed officials concerned to bring the attackers to justice.
On December 22, a section of Muktijoddha Mancha activists attacked Nur and his followers inside his office at Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) on the Dhaka University campus.
Tofail, a former vice-president of Ducsu, said, "When we were involved in student politics, we followed different ideologies. Despite that, all of us sat together and declared the 11-point Programme on January 4, 1969.
"When someone is elected Ducsu vice-president, he becomes everyone's leader. The way Nur was tortured inside the Ducsu office was inhumane. The NSF (National Students Federation Pakistan) attacked the Ducsu office in a similar way when we were students. But Ayub Khan and the NSF fell from power, but nobody learned a lesson from it."
