5, including 2 suspended policemen, arrested over robbing man at IFIC Bank
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch has arrested five people, including two suspended police constables, in connection with robbing a man of Tk20 lakh from the IFIC Bank's Paltan branch in Dhaka.
The incident took place this afternoon (21 September) when an employee of a businessman went to the IFIC Bank branch to deposit Tk20 lakh, Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division of DMP Hayatul Islam Khan confirmed the matter.
The DC said the man was standing in line to deposit money when two police constables in their uniforms pulled him out of there, snatched the money from him and fled the scene.
A case has been filed with the Paltan police station over the incident.
After scrutinising the CCTV footage and conducting interrogations, officials from the Paltan police station and the DB's Motijheel zonal team arrested two hawkers – Hridoy and his accomplice Manju over the robbery.
The suspended police constables Mahabub and Asif were tipped off about the money, said DC Hayatul Islam.
They have been arrested with Tk10 lakh in possession by officials of the Demra police station, he added.
Later, another man, Sohail, was arrested carrying the remaining Tk10 lakh while riding a motorcycle in the capital's Bashabo.
