The police have recovered eight dismembered body parts from a luggage lying in the bushes in Patenga area of Chattogram.
The luggage was found on the side of the road adjacent to Patenga 12 ghat on Thursday night. The headless and bodiless fragments are suspected to be of a male aged between 40 and 45.
Aftab Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patenga police station, said the coffee-coloured luggage was left in a bush on the side of a bylane road of Airport Road adjacent to Ghat No 12.
"A local woman saw the luggage and informed the police. Later the police went and opened it and saw the dismembered parts of the hands and feet", he added.
"The place where the luggage was left is a narrow lane, away from the main road. The arms and legs were cut into eight pieces wrapped in tape and stuffed into the luggage. A shirt and a lungi were also inside the luggage", he said.
He also said that the fragmented body parts were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy and police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased through the fingerprints.
