Fifteen extremists in Bogura get a donation from the prime minister's fund of Tk50,000 each for returning to normal life after surrendering their arms.
The extremists were given the money for rehabilitation on Sunday at Bogura Police Line in the presence of Police Superintendent Ali Ashraph Bhuyan, district administration officers and the district Awami League General Secretary Mojibor Rahman Majnu.
Earlier in April 2019, they received government donation along with 580 other extremists in Pabna of Tk1 lakh each.
Uzzal Khan of Dupchanchia became an extremist for various reasons. Now he works as a farmer and is doing better than he used to do before. "Now I do farming and I no longer live in tension," said Uzzal, adding that he feels better about his life now.
Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Santahar under Adamdighi upazila became an extremist after getting involved in bad company. He joined an extremist group over greed for money because he had monetary problems. He used to work as a driver for the group.
However, he left the group a year back. He said, "I did not waste a single penny of the donation money." Mamun set-up a duck farm in his village where he rears around 700 ducks. "I own myself now," boasts Mamun.
All the 15 are now doing well like Uzzal and Mamun. The district administration is also pleased over the matter.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Salahuddin Ahmed thanked these 15 people and urged other extremists to return to normal life.
Police Superintendent Ali Ashraph said police regularly monitor their activities and have not found any signs of extremism in their behaviour.
They are actually on the right path and will do well in the future, he hoped.
