Money allocated for Janmashtami to be spent on Cumilla flood victims: Festival committee

Amid the worsening flood situation, the Janmashtami Festival Celebration Committee in Cumilla has decided to distribute the festival's budget among the flood-affected people.
The Janmashtami Festival Celebration Committee in Cumilla made this announcement in a press release on Friday (23 August).
"The Cumilla Janmashtami Festival Celebration Committee are deeply saddened by the current hardship faced by the people. Amid the overall flood situation in the country, we decided that there will be no rallies this year," stated Pradeep Saha, the festival coordinator, and Shyamal Krishna Saha, member secretary, in the press release.
"The ceremonies will be limited only to worship. The money allocated for the rally will be spent on helping the flood victims," they added.
Talking to TBS, Pradeep Saha said, "If people survive, we can celebrate Janmashtami again. This time, we will stand by the flood victims.
"We will send the funds allocated for the rally and additional funds to the flood victims," he added.
Janmashtami is a festival celebrating the birth (Janma) of Krishna. This year, it will take place on Monday (26 August).
