DMP requests city residents to help recover illegal firearms
In a notice sent to the media, DMP said a joint operation has been started to recover the firearms and ammunition the licenses for which expired yesterday (4 September) and all other weapons which were looted from police stations and offices of other law enforcement agencies
Dhaka Metropolitan Police have asked the residents of the city to help them recover the firearms that were looted during the unrest following the fall of the Awami League government.
In a notice sent to the media, DMP said a joint operation has been started to recover the firearms and ammunition the licenses for which expired yesterday (4 September) and all other weapons which were looted from police stations and offices of other law enforcement agencies.
"Inform us immediately if you have information about illegal firearms. DMP is committed to make the city free from unregistered weapons," the notice said.
"If you have information on illegal weapons, call National Emergency Number '999' or inform your closest police station. Information can be given through the facebook page of DMP (https://www.facebook.com/dmpdhaka) or our Whatsapp numbers (01320-037870, 01320-037871)," reads the notice.
