Not everyone accused in FIRs will be arrested, investigation will take place first: DMP commissioner
All police stations will return to normal operations within two weeks
Not everyone named in a First Incident Report (FIR) will be arrested as action will be taken only after proper investigation, DMP Commissioner M Mainul Hasan said today (15 September).
Speaking at a meeting with the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh at police headquarters today (15 September), he also said cases could be filed at any time over incidents of crime, adding that cases would also be filed on the incidents of police killings and looting of police stations.
Regarding journalists being accused in genocide case, he said investigation will be done before making any arrest.
The DMP Commissioner also said that 177 police vehicles were damaged. Many structures were damaged. They are trying to recover from the damage.
"Checkposts have already become operational. Police will be more active in preventing robbery. All police stations will return to normal operations within two weeks," he said.
The DMP commissioner noted that 45 DMP police officers have refused to join their duties, claiming they intend to leave the country.
CRAB President Kamruzzaman Khan, General Secretary Sirajul Islam along with executive committee members and DMP officials were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the meeting, CRAB President Kamaruzzaman Khan urged police to be more proactive in their approach to crime prevention.
He believes that increased police visibility can deter criminals.
To bolster public trust, the CRAB president emphasised the need for increased police activity in the DMP area.
He suggested expanding initiatives like open house day, beat policing, community policing, and patrols.
During the discussion, DMP Commissioner Crab answered various questions of the leaders. He assured the CRAB leaders when they presented various issues including the launch of workshops and media awards for the members.
