Khulna OC withdrawn over Dr Rakib murder
Harintana Police Station OC Ashraful Alam has been appointed as OC of Khulna Police Station
Khulna Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Bahar Bulbul has been withdrawn for allegedly delaying and neglecting responsibility over the murder case of Dr Abdur Rakib Khan.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesman deputy commissioner of police Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu said Aslam was withdrawn from Khulna police station on Sunday afternoon and closed at the Khulna Metropolitan (KMP) police line.
At the same time, Harintana Police Station OC Ashraful Alam has been appointed OC of Khulna Police Station.
Dr Rakib, director of Raisa Clinic in the Gallamari area of the city, was injured in a scuffle with patient's relatives on the charge of wrong treatment on June 16.
He died the next day while being treated at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital in Khulna.
The day after the incident, Dr Rakibs relatives complained of delay in filing a case against OC Aslam Bahar Bulbul.
Doctors went on strike on June 17 to protest the incident. At a press conference on June 18, Khulna BMA leaders announced a 72-hour ultimatum to demand punishment of the culprits, including the withdrawal of the OC.
On June 17, Dr Rakib's younger brother Saiful Islam filed a case against the patient's relatives at the Khulna Sadar police station.
Police have arrested 6 people in the case. The arrested are Abdus Quddus, Jamir Sheikh, Khadija Begum, Abdur Rahim, Abul Ali and Golam Mostafa.
Four accused have been sent to jail after pleading guilty to the charge.
