Samurai Jack gets a new 3D hack-n-slash game

Long ago in our distant youth, we, the fans, enjoyed an unspeakably amazing animated television series called the Samurai Jack. The brave time travelling samurai wielding a magic sword won the hearts and minds of many, before its abrupt cancellation.

After an onslaught of requests by the fans through the years, series creator Genndy Tartakovsky finally returned in 2017 to finish Samurai Jack with a fifth season that aired on the Adult Swim.

Though the season was the definitive conclusion of the Jack's saga, the titular hero will be back in the 3D title Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time. Developers Adult Swim Games and Soleil Games announced the hack-and-slash action game – based on the hit animated series – on the last week of February.

As yet, there is no concrete release date, but the game is set to launch this summer for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Phil LaMarr will provide the iconic voice of Samurai Jack and Greg Baldwin will continue to provide the voice of Aku.

Also, many favorite characters will make appearances in the game. Notable mentions include The Scotsman, Scaramouche, and Sir Rothchild.

Phill recently said the original story is heavily connected with the series finale. The game begins during the finale as Jack is finally returning to the past to defeat his nemesis, Aku.

During the demon's death throes, he changes the course of Jack's time portal, sending the samurai back to where he first landed upon entering the future. Throughout the game, you will relive Jack's greatest adventures, playing through the series' most epic moments.

Jack's love interest, Ashi, will be at the game's core, acting as his driving force.

According to the game's official website, Jack can equip and master over a dozen different weapons in combat. There will be unlockable skills, allowing you to define your own play style.

A trailer for the Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time was released back in February. The trailer, although brief, gives us an idea about the gameplay. Developer Soleil is seemingly pulling inspiration from their work on Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker.

Jack was also seen using a slick jumping move while fighting in the futuristic metropolis, giving an idea about his learnable combat skills.

The game's story will span all five seasons. In the trailer, Jack is seen fighting foes in both his original white kimono, which he used throughout seasons 1-4 and his pitch-black Karuta that he wore during Season 5.

It is quite possible that the game will look very similar to the main series for the cut-scenes while featuring the 3D style graphics during the gameplay.

The last Samurai Jack game to be produced was "Samurai Jack: The Shadow of Aku" for Nintendo GameCube and Playstation 2 in 2004. The game featured an original story set in four different worlds.
