Police recovered the body of singer Moni Kishore from a house in the capital's Rampura area last night (19 October).
"Moni was renting a house behind the BTV building, and his body was recovered around 10:30pm," said Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station.
He said, "Moni lived alone in that house. The door was locked from the inside. The landlord, upon trying to collect the rent today, rang the doorbell several times without a response.
"Furthermore, a foul smell coming from inside raised his suspicions," said Ataur.
"He called the national emergency service number 999 to report the matter. After being informed by them, police went to the flat and broke the door to recover the body," he added.
The Rampura police OC said the body had started to decompose by the time they recovered it.
"It is presumed that he died several days ago. The exact time and cause of death will be known after the autopsy," he added.
Moni Kishore released his last album nearly a decade ago. However, he occasionally performed on radio and TV and participated irregularly in stage shows.
Before entering the music industry, Moni was involved in the clothing business. Even when he was irregular in music, he maintained that business.
Moni Kishore sang over five hundred songs. Among the popular songs of this artist listed on radio and TV are 'Ki Chile Amar Bolona Tumi,' 'Ami More Gele,' 'Phool Jhore Tara Jhore,' 'Mukhe Bolo Valobashi,' and 'Ami Gharer Khoje.'
