Where do Biden and Trump stand now?

Maybe this is the most exciting election in few decades as the two key players of US presidential election-2020 are still in a tight contest and are mulling legal action to settle some election issues.

In the overall situation on Thursday night (Bangladesh time), democrat candidate Joe Biden was in need of only six electoral votes to reach the 270 mark while Republican candidate Donald Trump was far behind with only 214 electoral votes in the bag.

Till filing this report, vote counting was in progress in the swing states, including Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Florida.

Biden closer to victory than Trump

If everything goes as per projection, democrats are very close to victory as it will not be tough for them to capture six more electoral votes.

Slim margins separate Donald Trump and Biden in the remaining states' vote counts and a Biden victory in any one of those states, except Alaska, would put him over the 270 vote threshold needed.

The key remaining states are Pennsylvania (20 electoral votes), Georgia (16 electoral votes), North Carolina (15 electoral votes) and Nevada (six electoral votes). If Biden wins one of those, he will hit 270 or above.

Trump is currently at 214 electoral votes and would need a combination of those. He is expected to win Alaska, the other uncalled state, which has three electoral votes.

The determiners

Summary Vote counting was in progress in a handful of key battleground states which will determine the outcome of the US presidential election.

The states of Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Pennsylvania are going to play the role of determiner in the election, reports BBC.

According to latest data, the closest fight has been recorded in the state of Georgia as Trump has bagged 49.6% of the total counted votes while Biden got 49.2% votes. There, 99% of the total votes have so far been counted.

In Arizona, 88% of total votes have been counted. Here, Biden has taken lead with 50.5% votes in the bag while Trump got 48.1% votes.

Among others, Nevada recorded 75% vote counts and Pennsylvania 87%.

However, it is clear that Biden has multiple paths to victory while Trump would need to take all the remaining states.

The tension in the states will hopefully be over within a few hours.  

Republicans file lawsuits in 3 states

Donald Trump's electoral campaign has launched legal bids to stop the counts in the states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Georgia.

In the contesting battleground states, Trump slipped behind Democrat Joe Biden in the hunt for the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.

The lawsuits were filed demanding better access for campaign observers to locations where ballots are being processed and counted, and raise absentee ballot concerns, the campaign said.

Protests flare up across US cities

Amid increasing tension, thousands of people – both democrats and republicans - took to the streets in different states.

Trump supporters rallied in Detroit and Phoenix calling for officials to stop ballot counting, while the president's opponents in New York, Portland, Seattle and others marched demanded a complete tally of the ballots.

Republicans claim 'voter fraud' in Nevada

The Republicans in Nevada have decided to file a lawsuit, claiming that around 10,000 votes were cast by people who no longer live in the state, reports BBC.

Nevada was one of several states to send postal ballots to every adult that is registered vote. Trump railed against the "universal mail-in ballot" system decision during his campaign, claiming that it would lead to fraud.

Despite Trump's repeated claims, there is no evidence of wide-scale voter fraud in any major US election. This is now the fourth state where Republicans are filing a legal challenge to the vote.
