14 deaths in Cumilla floods so far
Cumilla District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mohammad Abed Ali stated, "We have received reports of five deaths in different upazilas of Cumilla in the last 24 hours."
Four people, including two children, have died due to drowning in floodwaters in Cumilla in the last 24 hours.
Additionally, one person passed away from cardiac arrest at a shelter.
These incidents occurred between Monday noon (26 August) and night in Cumilla's Burichang, Nangalkot, Monohorgonj, and Laksam upazilas.
On the previous day (25 August), three more people died in Titas and Burichang upazilas, while six others had died earlier since the start of the floods.
Two children - Hasibul, 10, and Ibrahim, 4 drowned in floodwaters in Burichang Sadar and Pashchimsingh areas yesterday afternoon (26 August), Burichang Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahida Akter said.
Later in the day, Serajul died in Gorakmura, Nangalkot, while two others drowned in Mirzapur, Monohorgonj, at night. Nangalkot UNO Suraiya Akter Lucky and Monoharganj UNO Ujjala Rani Chakma confirmed the deaths.
Meanwhile, Maksuda Begum, 55, died from cardiac arrest at a shelter in Laksam, said Nazia Binte Alam, Laksam upazila health officer.
