4 dead as trawlers capsize in Banshkhali
The incidents happened at the Mohona and Bedkholi’s Tek area of Banshkhali channels in the Bay of Bengal
Four people died when two trawlers sank en route to an orosh (Muslim religious gathering) at a Darbar Sharif in Kutubdia, Cox's Bazar on Wednesday.
The incidents happened at the Mohona and Bedkholi's Tek area of Banshkhali channels in the Bay of Bengal.
The deceased were identified as, Md Akkas, 28, an Omani expatriate and Md Minhaz, 10, from Katharia Union's Bagmara village, and Abdul Malek, 50, and Abdul Jalil, 32 – both from Khankhanabad Union's Gundamara village.
"Both trawlers left from Banshkhali's Katharia and Khankhanabad, respectively, to attend an orosh of Malek Shah at a Darbar Sharif in Kutubdia when the trawlers capsized," said Officer in Charge of Banshkhali police station Rezaul Karim.
He added that at the time of the sinking, some of the passengers of the Katharia trawler swam to shore, after which locals found two bodies.
Along with that, the other trawler that left from Khankhanabad sank in Mohona when it crossed the Jolbadar and locals found two more bodies.
