AL leader beaten up by mob over theft attempt
Local UP member Tofazzal Hossain rescued him and handed him over to police
A local Awami League leader was injured on Friday after he had been beaten by a mob over an allegation of theft attempt in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail.
Local union parishad Chairman Tofail Hossain Mollah said he was informed by local people that Shaheen Khan, president of 7 no ward of Shahbatpur union parishad, was caught red-handed while attempting to steal from a house at Nandapara village under Shahbatpur union on Friday midnight.
The angry mob gave him a good thrashing, leaving him critically injured. Local UP member Tofazzal Hossain rescued him and handed him over to police.
Sub-inspector of Nagarpur police station Noor Mohammad said Shaheen, who was also a former union parishad member, was first taken to upazila health complex and later shifted to Tangail General Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Nagarpur police station Alam Chaad said police will take further action against him after investigation.
