Bangladeshi-American Shamsul becomes Lt Commander in New York Police
Expatriate Bangladeshi-American Shamsul Haque has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Intelligence Squad of New York Police, US.
He received the promotion at a ceremony at New York Police Department (NYPD) Police Academy in Queens, New York on January 29.
Lieutenant Commander Shamsul Haque said, "I am the first Bangladeshi to get this promotion. Many expatriate Bangladeshis serving in the New York Police Force will also be able to come to this position in the future."
Shamsul Haque joined NYPD in January 2004. At that time, a handful of Bangladeshis were working as police officers in the United States. In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014. He later joined the NYPD's elite internal affairs investigation group.
Bangladeshi-American Shamsul Haque moved to the United States from Bangladesh in 1991.
