Case filed against 3 in speedboat accident
A six-member investigation committee headed by Azharul Islam, deputy director of the local government department, has been formed to probe into the accident.
The naval police have filed a case against three, including the wharf leaseholder, with Shibchar police station in connection to the speedboat accident which killed at least 26 people.
Madaripur Superintendent of Police Golam Mostafa Rasel told Somoy News, "The speedboat drivers were secretly picking up passengers from Munshiganj. A case has been filed by the naval police in this regard. The culprits will be brought under the law."
Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Rahima Khatun told Somoy News, "A six-member investigation committee headed by Azharul Islam, deputy director of the local government department, has been formed to probe into the accident. The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within the next three working days."
Meanwhile, each family of the victims is being given financial assistance of Tk 20,000.
On Monday morning, a collision between a sand-laden bulkhead and a speedboat in the Padma river of Madaripur's Shibchar killed 26 and injured five.
According to the local administration, the Speedboat carrying 31 passengers left Shimulia at 7.30 am. When the boat reached Kanthalbari Puraton Ghat area, it sank following a collision with the anchored bulkhead.
