Gold worth Tk3.5 crore recovered at Osmani Airport; one person arrested
The official said that the gold was seized after searching the luggage of Parendra
Bangladesh customs recovered 6.15Kg of gold at Sylhet Osmani International Airport from a passenger returning from Dubai. The recovered gold includes 36 gold bars and a gold disc with an aggregate estimated value of approximately Tk3.5 crore.
The passenger by the name of Parendra was arrested, confirmed customs officials.
Airport customs officials searched the luggage of Parendra Das and seized the smuggled gold on Monday.
According to customs sources, when the Bangladesh Airlines BG247 plane landed at the airport at 8 am, the NSI interrogated the passenger as his movements were suspicious. At one point Parendra admitted he had gold in his luggage.
Deputy Commissioner Al Amin of Customs Excise and VAT at Osmani Airport said "The market value of the recovered gold is about Tk3.5 crores."
He said, "We are questioning how Parendra brought the gold and legal action will also be taken against him."
