Brahmanbaria police lines attack mastermind arrested
He is the organising secretary of Jubo Dal’s Brahmanbaria district unit
Police have arrested a Jubo Dal man in connection with masterminding the attack on Brahmanbaria district police lines during Hefazat-e-Islam's general strike in March.
The arrestee is Hasmat Khandaker, 49, son of Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Ghatura village in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila. He is the organising secretary of Jubo Dal's Brahmanbaria district unit.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Sharifpur in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila and arrested Hasmat at 4pm on Tuesday, said Inspector (operations) Istiak Ahmed of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station.
"He is the prime accused in the case filed over the attack on the police lines. The attack was made following his direction," the police official said.
On 28 March, a group of miscreants attacked Brahmanbaria district police lines during Hefazat's nationwide strike.
Reserved Inspector of Police of the police lines Syed Emdadul Haque on 14 April filed a case with Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station in this connection.
In the case, he named 43 people while 700-800 unnamed others were also accused.
The damage in the attack amounted to Tk6 lakh, police mentioned in the case statement.
