A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a member of banned militant group Neo JMB's female wing from the capital's Sadarghat area.
The team conducted a raid in the area under Kotwali Police Station and arrested Ayesha Zannat Mohona alias Zannatut Tasnim alias Progga Devnath, 25, on Thursday afternoon.
An Indian passport, a Bangladeshi birth registration certificate, a Bangladeshi national identity card and two mobile phones were seized from her.
SK Imran Hossain, senior assistant commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, confirmed the matter.
During primary interrogation, Ayesha informed that she was an Indian citizen, hailing from West Bengal. She converted to Islam from Hindu in 2009. She got interested in religious studies and became acquainted with the members of JMB's female wing through online.
Later she got introduced to Asmani Khatun alias Asma alias Bondi Jibon, the leader of the wing, and started working for the organization.
She further informed that she used to visit Bangladesh regularly from 2016. She collected money from JMB members living in various countries and spent the cash for the organization.
Later she made a fake birth registration certificate to make a fake identity card to be a Bangladeshi citizen. Meanwhile, she got married to a Bangladeshi expatriate named Amir Hossain Saddam over mobile phone. Amir lives in Oman. Then she came to Bangladesh in 2019 for living here permanently as per her husband's suggestion. That time she lived in several areas of Keraniganj and Fatullah.
She worked in different madrasas there as a teacher hiding her identity.
Later she left her job when Asmani got arrested. She then started working online. She recruited male members, trained female members and collected money to distribute among the female members.
A case has been filed with Motijheel Police Station against her in this regard. She will be produced before a court tomorrow.
Police are working to arrest the members recruited by her.
