A madrasah student drowned and two other children went missing while taking a bath in the sea in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar today (24 November).
The incident happened at Khonarpara Point of the Bay of Bengal under Sadar union in Teknaf at around 12:45pm, said Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Gias Uddin.
The deceased was identified as Nur Kamal, 10, son of Saddam Hossain from Ward No-5 at Khonkarpara in the area. The two who went missing were identified as Mohammad Babul, 10, son of Korban Ali, and Monjurul Islam, 12, son of Md Nojir Ahmed.
Quoting locals, OC Gias said, "Around 10-15 children went to play at the Sadar union's Beach Point at around 12pm.
"At one point, the children went for a bath at the sea when three of them went adrift by the high tide. Hearing shouts of the children, locals recovered Kamal's body while two others went missing."
The OC further said police reached the spot after hearing the news and informed the Fire Service about the incident.
"Police, Fire Service and local fishermen are trying to find the missing children. The body of the deceased has been handed over to his family," said the police official.
