Man to die for killing wife in Tangail
The court also fined him Tk1 lakh
A Tangail court on Tuesday awarded death penalty to a man for killing his wife over dowry.
The court also fined him Tk1 lakh.
Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Justice Khaleda Yasmin passed the order.
The death-row convict is Roni Ghosh, son of Robi Ghosh, resident at Shahpara in the district.
According to the case statement, Roni Ghosh married Monty Ghosh, daughter of Gazipur's Chini Ghosh, on June 30 in 2013.
Later, on September 14 that year, Roni along with his family members strangled Monty to death as she refused to give Tk10 lakh as dowry.
The next day, victim's mother filed a case against five people with Tangail Model Police Station under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act.
Later, the investigation officer submitted a charge sheet against Roni, his father Robi Ghosh and sister-in-law Purnima Ghosh.
However, Roni's father and sister-in-law were acquitted as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
