Man flees leaving body of 8-month-pregnant wife at Ctg hospital
The woman, identified as Shahnaz Kamrun Nahar, 25, was brought to the hospital dead, with visible marks of strangulation on her neck
A man fled after leaving the body of his eight-month-pregnant wife at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the early hours of Wednesday (16 October).
The woman, identified as Shahnaz Kamrun Nahar, 25, was brought to the hospital dead, with visible marks of strangulation on her neck, said hospital officials.
The body has been sent to the CMCH morgue for a post-mortem to determine whether it was a murder or suicide.
Shahnaz lived with her husband, Prince Mohammad Al Fahad Chowdhury, in Chattogram's Cosmopolitan Residential Area.
Her hometown is Haidgaon, and her husband is from Shantirhat. Both are located in the district's Patiya upazila.
"Police were informed about the incident by hospital authorities at around 6:30am on Wednesday. The hospital report mentioned that the victim was eight months pregnant and had strangulation marks on her neck," said Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish Police Station.
"We are investigating whether it was a case of murder or suicide. The post-mortem will reveal the cause of death," he added.
Solaiman said when police visited the couple's apartment following the incident, they found the residence locked.
"According to the landlord and the security guard, the husband and his family fled shortly after the incident, leaving the house keys with the security guard," he added.
Police have started legal proceedings and are working to track down the husband and his family, who are currently on the run.
"Their sudden disappearance has deepened suspicions about the circumstances surrounding Shahnaz's death," said Solaiman.
The OC also said the body had been sent for an autopsy, and further legal proceedings were underway.
