Reckless racing costs college girl’s life
Manisha Barman Athai, 20, was crushed by a bus while she was on a motorbike on Monday evening
Reckless racing between two motorbikes cost the life of a college girl in the capital on Monday, only four days after the new road transport act came into effect.
The deceased has been identified as Manisha Barman Athai, 20, a third-year student of Dhaka Mohanagar Mohila College. The biker, Galib, 23, was also injured in the incident.
The accident took place when the motorcycle skidded on the ramp of the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover and a running bus of Thikana Paribahan ran over pillion rider Athai's leg.

"The biker lost control and skidded while competing with another motorbike when they were crossing the Chankharpul intersection. A bus from Thikana Paribahan then went over Athai's legs," said Rabbi, a friend of Galib and Athai.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge inspector Bachchu Mia said, "After receiving the news, we went to the spot and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The doctor declared Athai dead on arrival. Ghalib is still receiving treatment."
Shaheen Fakir, acting officer-in-charge of Bangshal police station, said, "The bus has been seized. However, the driver absconded."
