Govt disburses Tk1.82cr recompense for garment workers’ death
The labour ministry handed over a cheque to a BGMEA representative at the 13th Central Fund Board Meeting
The Ministry of Labour and Employment on Sunday disbursed Tk1.82 crore from its central fund in compensation to the families of 91 garment workers who died in different factories.
Only the member factories of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) are getting this money, read a press release.
The ministry handed over a cheque to a BGMEA representative at the 13th Central Fund Board Meeting, presided over by State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian.
At the meeting, the ministry also approved a financial assistance of Tk25.89 lakh from its emergency fund for paying the arrears of salary and allowance to workers of a now-shuttered garment factory – also a member of the BGMEA.
Labour Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Managing Director of the fund Md Amir Hossain, BGMEA Secretary Mohammad Abdur Razzak, Bangladesh National Garment Workers Employees League's President and a member of the board Sirajul Islam Rony, and Joint General Secretary of Mohila Sramik League Syeda Khairun Nahar Tamrin participated at the meeting.
