He will sit on board after AGM scheduled for 19 December
Minhaz Mannan Emon, managing director of BLI Securities, has been elected unopposed as a shareholder director on the board of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for a three-year term.
He will succeed Sharif Ataur Rahman, managing director of SAR Securities, who is retiring from the DSE board.
According to a press release from the DSE, Emon was first elected as a director in March 2012 and served until June 2014. Later, he was re-elected in March 2018 and served until September 2020.
Emon has been associated with the capital market for over 35 years and brings extensive experience.
He is also a founder-director of Tomorrow Land Limited and Green Works Limited. Additionally, he serves as the proprietor and managing director of Platinum Securities Limited, a corporate member of the Chittagong Stock Exchange, according to the DSE press release.
To fill a vacant director position, the premier bourse formed a three-member election commission on 16 October. The commission is chaired by retired Justice Md Abdus Samad, with shareholder representatives Md Rafiqul Islam and Dewan Azizur Rahman as members.
The election commission announced the election schedule on 28 October to elect a shareholder director.
According to the schedule, nominations were to be submitted between 12 and 17 November, and Md Shakil Rizvi was proposer of Emon.
During this period, Emon was the sole candidate to submit a nomination.
The election commission on Tuesday (19 November) reviewed the submitted nomination and declared him eligible for the position.
He will sit on the board of the DSE after the annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for 19 December.
Emon on Tuesday told The Business Standard, "As before, I will work transparently for the development of the capital market. Despite various challenges and obstacles, I will strive to build a healthy and thriving capital market by working together with everyone."
