Amphan victims in Khulna living under open sky
The damages increased for the water level rise in the Pashur River
Cyclone Amphan has devastated many parts adjacent to the Sundarbans. The cyclone victims have lost their houses, daily essentials and even their grains.
"Amphan has took away our home. We have lost almost all the essentials, including rice, paddy, furniture. Now, we are in a great distress," said Punil Krishna Sardar, 65, of Changmari village under Banishanta union of Dacope upazila in Khulna.
The scenario is similar for Ranjit Sardar, Satyajit Sardar, Ratna Mandal and others living in the same area.

A large number of households in Dhangmari, Rekhamari and Banishanta areas – adjacent to Wapda embankment near Sundarbans – were severely affected for the cyclone Amphan.
Hatcheries and properties of the people were washed away in Pashur River.
The families are passing days under the open sky. But they have not received any relief materials so far.
"No one from the local administration came to know our conditions," alleged the people of the areas.
"Many of the people took shelter in the cyclone centres. But most of the households were damaged. Besides, furniture, properties were washed away by the wave from the Pashur River," said Binay Krishna Sarder, a resident of Dhangmari area.
Some 85 houses in Dhangmari, 88 in Rekhamari and 90 houses of Banishanta area were completely damaged, he added.
"The mud roads have been broken, and the locals are spending days under the open sky," he added.
Sudeb Kumar Roy, chairman of Banishanta union parishad said that the streets were severely damaged by the cyclone.
The damages have increased for the water level rise in the river, he added.
Listings of cyclone-affected were underway to distribute relief materials, said the chairman.
Some 1,200 households and educational institutions have been damaged, said Abdul Wadud, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Dacope upazila.
"Three kilometres of embankments and 9,000 houses have been partially affected. Around 300 houses were washed away in the water," Abdul Wadud added.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossain and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain have visited Batbunia and surrounding areas, said the UNO, adding that cash and tins were distributed among the cyclone victims.
