Case filed over Sarjis-Hasnat’s motorcade accident in Ctg
A case has been filed in connection with the accident involving a private car from the motorcade of Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The incident occurred yesterday (27 November) in the Lohagara area on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway as they were returning from the port city after attending the namaz-e-janaza of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif who was killed on 26 November.
According to the Lohagara police, a speeding truck collided with the motorcade's private car, injuring four passengers, including Ahmed Newaz, a resident of Chattogram city's Shugandha area, who later filed a case under the Road Transport Act today.
The truck, driven by Mohammad Mojibur Rahman, 52, with his son Mohammad Rifat, 18, onboard, was detained by police immediately after the accident.
Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station, confirmed the filing of the case and the arrest of the truck driver. He said the investigation is ongoing.
The plaintiff alleged in the complaint that the truck driver was attempting to harm Sarjis and Hasnat.
However, as they were travelling in different vehicles, they were unharmed.
The car involved in the collision suffered damages estimated at Tk3,00,000, they also claimed.
The injured passengers, including Ahmed Newaz, are currently under treatment.
