Kumarika and Garbageman join hands for plastic waste management at the National Zoo
To raise awareness about environmental conservation, 'Kumarika Save the Nature' initiative recently organised a joint cleanup campaign at the National Zoo in Mirpur.
This collaborative effort brought together Kumarika, a responsible brand under Hemas Consumer Brands and Garbageman, a dedicated waste management organisation.
On 20 December 2024, the cleanup activity took place from 10 AM to 1 PM, involving 20 volunteers, 5 Garbageman staff members and 10 sanitation workers. During the drive, plastic waste was collected from various areas of the zoo, adequately segregated and sent for recycling.
As a responsible brand under Hemas Group, Kumarika has consistently advocated for natural care. Continuing this legacy, the 'Kumarika Save the Nature' initiative was launched in October 2023 to promote environmental conservation. Over one year, from October 2023 to October 2024, the initiative collected 14,242 kilograms of plastic waste from 1,166 households, commercial establishments and various events.
These plastics, including water and juice bottles, were recycled into polyester staple fibres used in fabric and thread production. Shampoo bottles and other plastic items like buckets and mugs were repurposed into plastic lumber as a sustainable alternative to wood. Meanwhile, chips packets and polythene bags were transformed into specialised floor mats for cattle farms.
Speaking about the initiative, Tushar Karmakar, Head of Marketing at Hemas Consumer Brands Bangladesh, said— "At Hemas, we are deeply committed to not only delivering natural care through our products but also caring for the environment. The 'Kumarika Save the Nature' initiative is a crucial step in our long-term vision for environmental preservation. Through activities like the zoo clean-up campaign, we aim to inspire people to take proactive steps in caring for nature and maintaining a cleaner, healthier environment for all."
The 'Kumarika Save the Nature' initiative represents a significant milestone in Kumarika's long-term commitment to producing and delivering high-quality products made from natural ingredients and conserving natural resources on a broader scale. Initially launched in Dhaka, this programme is set to expand gradually across the nation. Kumarika envisions that this movement to save nature will grow through collective small efforts, fostering widespread participation and raising awareness about environmental preservation in the coming days.
