The Detective Branch (DB) of Gulshan discovered a counterfeit money factory during an operation in the capital's Paltan area on Saturday.
They seized about Tk56 lakh of counterfeit money and equipment to make more than five or six crore taka in counterfeit money.
They also arrested four men and one woman during the operation. Their names and alleged roles in the operation follow: Hannan, a printer, Kawser, a special paper maker, Arif, the manager, Ibrahim, the supplier, and Khushi.
The process of filling a special power case is underway, confirmed the DB of Gulshan.
The counterfeiters had been doing business after Eid on the fifth and sixth floors of a building at 25/2 Purana Paltan Lane, just south of the BNP party office.
They lived in different places outside Dhaka city fearing that law enforcement would carry out raids before Eid. After Eid, they set up large factories in Paltan to do business in the hope that the law enforcement agencies would not look for them.
Shahin, the alleged financier of this factory, has been accused in multiple cases. The others accused have also been remanded in custody in multiple cases.
