Bangladesh loses a true friend, says PM mourning Pranab’s death
Indian former president Pranab Mukherjee has passed away in a Delhi hospital
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep condolence over the death of the Indian former president Pranab Mukherjee who breathed his last in a Delhi hospital on Monday.
Terming the veteran politician of the subcontinent as a true friend of Bangladesh, the prime minister said, "The contribution of Pranab Mukherjee in the great liberation war of Bangladesh will never be forgotten.
"I always remember with respect his outstanding contribution to the liberation war."
She further said that Pranab Mukherjee was always supportive while she was in exile in India after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975.
"He used to inquire about my family in such difficult times and stood by me in case of any need. Even after her return to the country, Pranab Mukherjee had given his support and encouragement, said the premier mentioning him as a guardian and family friend.
She said India lost a wise and patriotic leader and Bangladesh lost a loved one in the death of Pranab Mukherjee. He will survive as a shining star in the politics of the subcontinent.
The prime minister prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of his bereaved family.
