Father, 4 sons hacked to death over jhum land dispute in Bandarban
Locals said the hamlet chief had a long-standing dispute with some people over jhum land
Rivals hacked a local community chief and his four sons to death over a jhum land dispute in Ruma upazila of Bandarban in the Chattogram Hill Tracts on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Langrui Mro, 65, head of Abu Para village, and his four sons, Rungthui Mro, 42, Langrung Mro, 38, Menwai Mro, 29, and Ringrao Mro, 26.
Locals said the chief had a long-standing dispute with some people over jhum land. They met on Thursday night to settle the dispute but the two groups got into an altercation.
On Friday morning, the family of the chief was attacked. The chief and his elder son died on the spot in the attack. The injured were rushed to hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Ruma Police Officer-in-Charge Md Abul Kashem said, "We came to know of the incident late as the locality is very remote and the incident is now under investigation. Necessary action will be taken after the investigation is complete."
